While it's possible to reach the Everest region by road and on foot, flying to Lukla saves several days of travel and allows trekkers to begin their adventure almost immediately.
The flight itself typically takes around 25 to 35 minutes, depending on the departure airport and weather conditions.
Mountain weather changes quickly.
Cloud cover, visibility, wind and other weather conditions can affect flight operations in the Everest region. Since safety always comes first, flights may occasionally be delayed or rescheduled when weather conditions are unsuitable for flying.
If you're planning a trek, it's always wise to include one or two extra days in your itinerary to account for possible weather-related delays.
Depending on the trekking season and air traffic management, Lukla flights may operate from Kathmandu or Ramechhap. During peak trekking seasons, some Lukla flights are routed through Ramechhap to ease congestion at Kathmandu's domestic airport.
